Problems or possibilites - where is your focus

Posted in Uncategorized, Coaching, Success by Manny on February 23rd, 2009

Are you focused?  Or are you just flying all over the place.

Where and on what is your focus?

Are you focused:

On the down economy or are you focused on
the opportunities it creates

On down sales or the opportunities to take

business from your competition and finally
get them out of your accounts - take their
    share of the business.

On losing the customer, or finally getting

free of a customer that you were losing money on.

If you really want to understand focus, then you have to take a
look at children.

It is a snowy day, the snow is falling and it is starting to
really pile up.  You focus on problems with the roads, work
and a dozen other things, you might even start whining.

But your child, they focus on the possibilities,  they
focus on playing in the snow and having a great time.

When your child misses the school bus.  Again you focus
on having to go out of you way to take them to school,
the problems of messing up your schedule.

But your child, they focus on getting to spend more time
with you.  Getting to ride to school in the car with you.
Maybe even stopping for breakfast.  They focus on the
possibilities.

You have just spent the day at the shore and are getting
ready to leave.  You go to start your car, and it won’t
start.  You have to call the auto club and they tell you
that it will be at least a 2 hour wait.  You focus on the
wait, but guess what you children focus on?

They focus on 2 more hours of playing on the beach,
isn’t this great?

You see, as adults, and especially as business people,
we focus on the problem.

Our children focus on the possibilities, they are creative,
we are practical.

To be successful in this down economic time, you have to
learn to focus on the possibilities, not the problem.
You have to start being more creative.  You have to start
thinking outside that old box.

Start focusing on the possibilities and see what a difference
it can make.

Let’s look a bit deeper at the problems we originally
discussed:

You focus on the down economy.
What would happen if instead you focused on:

The opportunities it creates
The fact that as people go out of business, there is less competition.
The fact that more doors opened that have never been opened before.

You focus on down sales
Again, what would happen if instead:

You start focusing on the opportunities to take
business from your competition and finally get
them out of your accounts.
The need to help your customer and the opportunities
to build your relationship with them.  A relationship
that will really pay off in the future.  People remember.
The need to work smarter and use your time to find new
and creative ways to generate business.

You focus on losing the customer,
Again, what would happen if instead you focused
On finally getting free of a customer that you
were losing money on.
The fact that they will be back and once back you
will be able to charge them a price at which
you can make a profit
That everyone is looking and you now have more time
to prospect and find better customers

This week I want you to be more child like. I want you to start
looking at the possibilities.  You will be amazed at what you learn.

Looking for an edge, could coaching be that edge?

If you think you can’t - you’re right

Posted in Uncategorized, Success by Manny on February 2nd, 2009

I know that most of you have heard it from the positive,
“if you think you can, you can”.

Yet - how many of you really believe it?
How many of you really put your faith into it?
How many of you live it?

Forget the economy - yes it is bad - so what has that
got to do with you making money other than to keep you
from it.  It is actually a great time to make money.
You have a better chance to build successful companies
right now, and you have less competition (and will have
even less because many will give up).

Forget the negative talk you keep hearing.  If people
have time to talk negatively then they certainly have
time to try and fix it.  Why are they talking about
the negative instead of doing something about it.

Forget all those who don’t make it.  They are just
looking for some company.  Don’t you join them.
Be part of the group that keeps going and refuses
to give up.

If you believe you can - you can
Say it, but more so, believe it.

Most of us love Disney World.
But did you know that Walt Disney’s request for
loans were rejected by 301 banks before he finally
got a yes.  The loan he received allowed him to build
Disney World.  What if he had of stopped after 5 or 10
or 20 or 50?  What if you keep going and refuse to
stop after 5 or 10 or 20 rejections?
Will you find success?

Start today
If you are in sales, if you are in management, if
you own a business, or if you run a household.
It really doesn’t matter what you do, if you want
success, then follow the simple formula.

1.    Set the goal - define where it is you are going.
Make it part of you.

2.    Build the plan - how are you going to do it.
Create a plan to make it happen.

3.    Execute the plan - do it, do it, and do it some more.

4.    Don’t give up until you get there, don’t stop
short of the top, just keep on going.

If you always believe you can, then you will make it happen.

To many people almost do it, they are almost there, but
then they stop on a two mile mountain climb about 50  feet
from the top. They turnaround and go back

Most people stop long before that

The few who refuse to stop get to the top

Today, refuse to stop, refuse to listen to the negative,
just refuse to settle for anything less than your goal.

“I will call on ten who can buy my goods while the failure
makes grand plans to call on one.  I will say it is done
before the failure says it is to late”  Og Mandino in
The Greatest Salesman in the World.

Are you lazy?  Few really believe they are.  But this quote
puts it very simply, “Most failure is simply due to the fact
that we take the line of least persistence” - Norma Vincent Peale

That old sowing and reaping theory - you reap what you sow.
Farmers know it - they plant, they have patience and they harvest.

Successful people know it.

In sales if you sow long and hard enough, nothing can stop
you from success.

But, just as the farmers believes the seed will turn into
the product, you have to believe the seeds you sow will turn
into the results you are looking for.

What would happen if a farmer said, “I will plant these seeds,
but I doubt they will grow”.  Then after three days he plows
them under.  Conclusion -they will never grow.

I know that sounds wacky, but how much different is it from
you giving up.

It you think you can - you can
If you know you will - you will
If you don’t stop until it happens - it will happen.

Let me conclude with a great quote from Napoleon Hill’s book,
Think and Grow Rich, (if you haven’t read it, get it today),
“What a different story we would have to tell if only people
would adopt a definite purpose and stand by that purpose until
it had time to become an all-consuming obsession.”

If you think you can, you can.

Could coaching help you get there?
