Motivated People Make Things Happen While Everyone Else is Watching

The coach ask the team
members, ‘Did Michael Jordan ever quit’, they
responded, ‘no’. What about the Wight Brothers’,
the team hollered back, ‘no’. ‘Did Muhammad Ali
ever quit’, again they respond, ‘no’. ‘Did Elmer
McAllister ever quit’, and there was silence.
Finally one player was bold enough to ask,
‘who’s Elmer McAllister, we never heard of him’,
Coach snaps back, ‘of course you never hear of him,
he quit’.”
Quote from book, Defining Moments, by Dan Schaefer.

Today I would like to talk about 3 key factors
to motivation

1. Discipline

2. Determination

3. Drive
These where actually part of a list put together by
Scott Anderson and Chip Kurrle.

How are you doing as far as motivation is concerned?

Did you know that according to numerous studies
motivation may be the prescription for a healthy
life. That motivated patients recover faster
following surgery, have more successful rehabilitations
and show a 40-75 percent reduction in healthcare
cost compared to less motivated patients?
(Source, Get Motivated by Tamore Lowe)

I would say that is enough information for us to
believe motivation is important and for us to try
and understand these 3 attributes and apply them
in our lives.

First Discipline.
One of the great de-motivators in life is not getting
things done, having so many things hanging around
that you just don’t feel like doing anything. Get
things done and watch what happens to your motivation.

“If we put things off that need to be done now,
that does not prevent them from needing to be
done? It only adds today’s duties to tomorrow
and day after day, things pile up and soon life
is so confusing, frustrating and overwhelming,
we get depressed and discouraged”. - Joyce Meyer.

Remember what Elbert Hubbard said, “Self-discipline
is the ability to make yourself do what you
should do, when you should do it, whether
you feel like it or not.

How about that one - can you do it.

So the first step in motivation is discipline.
Get stuff done, today, now.

Second attribute is determination
You need to focus on getting the thing you are
working on right now done. Not the 100 other
things you might think about, but you need to
concentrate on what you are doing right now
and get it done right. It is amazing how
motivated you will get.

Just put everything out of your mind except the
dream, the goal you want to accomplish. When
I was in Marine Corp training I had a very simple
determination. There was no way I was going to
fail. Plain and simply, I was going to make it.

The third one is drive.
What is driving you to move forward today.
If it is nothing, guess what? That is why you
are not getting anywhere. If you have nothing
that is driving you, you will simply stand still.
The driver in your life will have a great effect
on motivation

What is your drive. I can remember going
through college and getting up every morning,
knowing I had to go to school full-time, then
work a full-time job, then handle a wife and
child. The drive was very strong, I need to
finish so I could have some more time for
my family. That was the motivation factor
that got me up at 6AM every day and keep
me going until 10PM. What is driving you.
If nothing then it is no wonder you are
standing still.

So if you want to be more motivated today,
tomorrow and moving forward remember
this simple formula.

Get disciplined to get things done.

Be determined to make it happen and that
nothing is going to stand in your way.

And then drive yourself forward refusing
to stop.

Just think what will happen in your life if
you get the things done that you need
to, that you are total determined not to let
anything stand in your way, and that you drive
yourself forward. Amazing what will happen in
your life.

This week I want you simply to follow this path.

Get those things done that need to be done.

Be determined to get those things done

Drive yourself to do them.

You will be amazed at what happens.

If you are not getting the results you want,
if you are not motivated enough, if this article
has not done the trick, then you should think
about coaching. It can help you put together
the motivation you need to be even move
successful.

Coaching is key to helping you and your
business attain greater results.

It really works?

It can be that edge that you need.

Learn more by clicking here or paste this address
into your browser.
http://TinyWebLink-001.com/?pid=3510811

Coach Manny Nowak
Encouraging, educating, inspiring and strengthening
business owners to be the best.

Permalink | Comments

Customer Expansion – how much more can you get form your base

Posted in Customer Service, Sales, Coaching, Marketing, Success by Manny on October 19th, 2009

Did you know that your customer who spends $1000
a year with you, actually buys $10,000 a year of what
you sell? He just buys the other $9,000 from other
vendors?

Are you aware that your customer would like some
additional products that you sell, but is not even
aware that you even sell them?

Did you know your customer has other divisions that
could use your products or services but you are not
even aware of you?

Are you so busy trying to get new business that you
forget to look in your own house.

One of the things I always do when taking a new sales
assignment is to really take a look at the existing
customers and to define first what else can be done
for them. How can business with them be increased
or expanded. What else can we sell them. It is just
amazing what can be found. On one assignment,
we were able to expand sales 70% in 18 months
just by increasing what we sold to our existing base.

Your existing customers already know you. They
already love you (or should). They trust you. They
buy from you. They would buy added product from
you if they knew you supplied it.

Don’t take anything for granted. Go find out. Do
not assume they know, in fact assume they don’t.

Start by putting your customers in order by the
amount of sales you do with them. It is critical
to start with the biggest customers first and
work down. This will get you the biggest payback
quickly.

The next step would be to start at the top of
the list and for each customer find out how
much of what you sell they buy both from you
and from other vendors. This is really a great
conversation piece and a way to meet with them.
Set up a meeting and get some answers.

Hi Janice, thanks for seeing me today. We are
working on our 2010 plan and I see that last
year you purchased $1,200 worth of product
from us. Thank you very much for your business.
Were you happy with the product and service.
Is there anyway we could do better for you?
Do you purchase our product from any other
vendors beside us? What would it take for
us to get a shot at increasing what we do
with you?

You can bet if your competition is good,
they are asking.

Yes, I know some customers like to spread
it around but times are different right now
and they might be open to listening to your
ideas? Go for the business before your
competitor does.

You do not want to hear that your customer
has decided to consolidate their purchases
with another vendor.

The next area is to make sure your customer
knows all the things you sell. Sometimes
you have been with a customer a long time,
things have changed and either you now
sell new products or they now have a need
for new products. But they do not know you
sell them.

If you sell auto insurance, do they now
know you also sell life?
If you sell network support, do they know
you also sell Internet service?

If you sell office supplies, do they know
you also sell coffee service?

Take some time and make sure you know
what they use. If you sell it, then go after
the business.

Finally one of the most overlooked areas
is other divisions. Or in the case of
entrepreneurs, other businesses they
own. Or in the case of families, other
businesses owned by other family members.
Do you take time to ask.
Do you have any other divisions or
affiliates or partners that could use
what we are selling you?

Do you own any other operations?

Are any members of your family in
business or buying for other business?

I can guarantee you that if you have a
good base of customers, there is more
business there. And these are only 3
things that we have looked at. There
are even more. What about upselling
to a high level product of what they
have. They might not even know they
need it, but you do?

Get out there this week and start working
your base. There is so much potential
work there. If you are looking for ways
to make money now - start working your base.

If you need help, if you want to but
together an effect plan that works,
if you really want to understand your
customers and do more business with
them, call and I will work with you to
make it happen.

If you are not getting the results you want,
as fast as you want, you should think about
coaching. It can help you but together a sales
follow-up process that really works and creates
the results you want. Coaching is key to helping
you and your business attain greater results.
It really works?

It can be that edge that you need.

Learn more by clicking here or paste this address
into your browser.
http://TinyWebLink-001.com/?pid=3510811

Coach Manny Nowak
Encouraging, educating, inspiring and strengthening
business owners to be the best.

Permalink | Comments

Follow-up, Follow-up, Follow-up

Posted in Customer Service, Networking, Sales, Coaching, Marketing, Success, social Media by Manny on October 12th, 2009

To See this article on Video: Click here

Are you doing the right follow-up with your accounts
or are you just letting them fall off the table like
so many sales people do? How long do you stay
in touch with a prospective buyer? How long do
they stay on your database? How long do you
keep trying?

One thing people can never accuse me of concerning
sales is giving up. They might wonder why I am still
chasing a client (prospects are only clients not yet
doing business with you), after years of never
getting any business. But they will never see me
give up unless there is no way this client could
ever use what I sell (in which case, why was I
chasing them in the first place).

So, how do you learn the right process for follow-up?
What is that right process for follow-up anyway?

I learned follow-up by selling computer consulting
services in the 1980’s to large accounts. At that
time I had a list of 100 key accounts that I knew
could use what I sold but were not doing business
with me. So I had a simple program, every month
I called this set of clients. I ask for the director
of information systems. Some times I got through
and got a no. Sometimes I didn’t get through
and left a message. Every month I called them.
After a while they knew who I was and would joke
with me and we started to build a relationship. This
went on for months and months and months.
Yet my persistent work did pay off. One day they
would say, “Manny, you just won’t give up until
you get in here and we talk about working together”.
And they would give me an appointment. Other
times it would be, Manny, you called at just the
right time, got a need, get in here and let’s talk.
This process sometimes took years. But I keep
going, finally got the business.

The point is very simple and it really does work.
If you have a prospective buyer (one who can
use your service) and you follow-up, build a
relationship and persist in going after them.
You will win in the end. It might take a while,
but you will get the business. Problem is, most
people quit about 1 call short of success. Just
like most people stop 20 feet short of the top
of the mountain when the fog gets to heavy to see.

Today I do coaching and sales consulting work.
As many of my existing clients know, I do not give
up. I just stay connected, educate, inform and
build a relationship until they do business with me.
I sold an account earlier this year, after 4 ½
years of working the client. Finally they saw a
need for me. If I had of gone away, they would
never have called me? But persistence again
paid off for me. What about you, are you doing the
right follow-up, are you being persistent, are you
continuing until you get the deal? Or, are you
stopping just short of the mountain top.

The great thing today is that you can do follow
up so much easier, so much quicker and with so
much bigger of a group by simply using email.
This does not mean that the phone has gone
away, it just creates a second method to do
follow up. Yes, some people do get mad about
emailing them, but they also are usually the
ones that get even madder when you call
them. So they might not be prospects at all?

I learned from some of the best that those who
like what you have, even if they are not buyers
today, will never push you away. They might not
read your email for months, but they will never
unsubscripted because you never know what the
future will bring.

Today’s key thought is very simple. Do you have
a program of consistent follow-up on the people
you meet and the prospects you find. Is that
program working for you? If not, what are you
doing to get a program together that works.

Today we simply discussed the importance of
follow-up. In the future we will be talking about
what that means and how to do it, so please
stay connect.

Follow-up Is it really simple. Actually it is to
simple for some because it just requires
staying connected in some small way. Most
would rather keep casing new business, it is
much more exiting.

But for those looking for great success, once
you find the right prospects, just keep doing
the follow-up and you will be amazed at how
much business you end up with.

If you are not getting the results you want,
as fast as you want, you should think about
coaching. It can help you but together a sales
follow-up process that really works and creates
the results you want. Coaching is key to helping
you and your business attain greater results.
It really works?

It can be that edge that you need.

Learn more by clicking here or paste this address
into your browser.
http://TinyWebLink-001.com/?pid=3510811

Coach Manny Nowak
Encouraging, educating, inspiring and strengthening
business owners to be the best.

Permalink | Comments

Time – Spending it on high payoff items

Posted in Time Management, Coaching, Success by Manny on October 5th, 2009

What did you spend your time on yesterday, last week,
last month? Did you spend your time and effort on the
highest payback items on your schedule, or did you
waste a bunch of time on items that have a low
payback or no payback? Are you still wondering why
you cannot get moving faster, further and with less
effort? STOP: You need not wonder anymore.

In today’s world of multi-tasking it might seem
strange to say:
One person at a time
One task at a time.

The people I work with are very busy and they are at
the top of their game, yet they almost always ask
the same question - how do I better manage my time?
The answer is actually very simple - stop spending
your time on low payoff items and start spending
your time on the highest payoff items you have on
your list. If you have 11 items to do today, and two
of them are very high payoff items - then spend your
time and effort on those two, and the heck with the
rest of the list.

Wow - very simple - but oh so hard
to do. Yet do not say you can’t.

Brian Tracy puts it very well when he says: “What
are my highest value items? Covey.

Urgent/not important

Not urgent/not important

Urgent/important

Not urgent/important

From this we know a few things. First, to many
of us spend time in urgent/not important or worse
not urgent/not important. These are the two
quadrants we must stay out of.

Further, from this we know that too many of us with
time problems spend our lives fighting fires. This puts
you into the urgent/important quarter of the matrix.

Don’t get me wrong, these have to be done, but
they are not the high payoff items. The high
payoff items actually exist in the not urgent/important
quarter of the matrix. These are the things that
are going to make you successful in the long run.

The real danger is that when you spend your whole day
on urgent/important items, you end up burned out
and wanting to spend the rest of the time in
not urgent/not important, no-brainer areas.

Very simply put, most people are spending too
much time on urgent/important because they
did not spend enough time in not urgent/important
in the past.

So if you continue spending the time in the
urgent/important quadrant - what will the
result be? Exactly, you will settle into a life
of fighting fires and never getting to where you
want to be. Have I connected with any of you?

Try this very simple process and see if you get
results, try it now. Go to your list and ask yourself
if each item has a high, medium, low or no
payback. Then spend the rest of today on the
items that are high payback only. You will not
have time for anything else, but at the end of
the day - you will certainly feel great and in the
future - you will grow and prosper.

If you are now inspired and want to learn more,
want to learn how to get twice the success out
of your day than you currently get, and you are
willing to change and willing to listen, then
contact me. Success is guaranteed if you listen
and follow the plan.

If you are not getting there as fast as you want,
you should think about coaching. It can help
you become a great leader. Coaching can help
you and your business attain greater results.
It really works?

It can be that edge that you need.

Learn more by clicking
