The only step left is accountability
Now you have your vision for 2010 -
you know what you want.
You know why you want it.
You have the passion to believe you can
do it.
You have a great plan, excellent goals
and activities that will get you there.
You have a process that will help you
each week define and execute the
actions that are going to take you there.
So, the only thing you have left is accountability.
Someone who is going to keep you on track.
Someone who is going to question you
when you don’t do what you said you would.
Someone who is not your friend but
the one who keeps you on track.
The final ingredient in success is accountability.
Again, and I hate to keep repeating it, but
even a great vision, plan and action can still fail.
Who is keeping you accountable?
You might think, “I don’t need it”.
But you are wrong
We all need accountability, because that is the
key that makes it happen.
Blanchard and Hodges in the book, “The Servant
Leader” put it very simply:
“Even great leaders like Moses can fall victim
to their own blind spots and when they do,
their effectiveness and credibility as a leader
can be impacted unless they have people in
their life who have been given permission to
call them to task when they got off track.
Who in your life is keeping you accountable?
Who in your life is making sure you did what
you said you were going to do.
Who in your life keeps you on the tract to success.
You can give me a hard time as much as you
want. But the bottom line is simply this,
without accountability it does not happen.
I further think that many of you out there c
an attest to this.
The question that someone has to keep
asking you is , “Did you do, what you
said you were going to do, when you
said you were going to do it? And if
you did not what are you doing to fix
the situation”.
Ignoring it is one of the biggest downfalls.
It is so easy to do.
I was suppose to make 20 calls last week.
I did not make any.
And as entrepreneurs it is so easy for us
to just ignore stuff, for who is going to know?
Bottom line, the results will know
As sales people, who is going to know if
we did what we said we were going to do?
The results will know.
But when you get to the results it is to late.
We need strict accountability.
These are the actions we are suppose to do.
It does not have to be a lot of rules.
It does not have to be micro management.
It doesn’t have to be anal retentive accountability.
You just need some accountability.
In my practice I work with clients
they always have actions.
I always ask - here is what you said you
were going do.
Did you do it?
And if you should go out and hire a coach.
This could be the single most important
thing they could do for you.
That coach, or mentor or friend who can be
hard on you. That person has to be able to
crack the wipe. That person can help you
to make 2010 your best year ever.
Bottom line - did you do what you said you
were going to do. If you didn’t, then what
are we going to do about it.
I usually suggest stoning. Just kidding.
So if you do not plan on spending time,
energy and ability on accountability
Then you can throw away the first 3 things
I taught you. Because accountability is
where the rubber meets the road.
Accountability from someone.
On a weekly basis works best.
On a monthly basis works also.
Somebody going back over with you, this is
what you said you were going to do. If it is
not done, what are we going to do to correct it
When you look at the great successes
How many people do you see who have
do not had somebody to coach them to
keep them accountable
Even one of the greatest basketball players ever
Michael Jordan had Phil Jackson to coach him.
This is the hardest piece of the process
As humans we don’t want to be accountable
we don’t’ want to be accountable to anyone
So get his piece and 2010 will be your best
year ever.
If you think you need some help with this
process then coaching might be the
key to helping you attain greater results.
It really works?
It can be that edge that you need.
